Better than “Texas Roadhouse Rolls” Whole Wheat

Who wants to make Whole Wheat “Texas Roadhouse Rolls”?? The fluffiest buns, oh so good.

I wanted to find a way to eat those delicious buns without having to go to town! (we live in the farm). I finally put this recipe together, and it’s been a hit since then!!! I was able to make a healthier version by choosing fresh whole wheat flour and using not so much sugar like other recipes.
Also, it’s a recipe that’s very easy to double or even triple the batch. So feel free to make big batches without messing it up. Though, the best way to enjoy them is fresh out of the oven!

Side note: make cinnamon butter too, and serve them just like in Texas Roadhouse! There won’t be an experience like eating it all fresh from scratch.

With that said, I hope you decide to make it, you’ll love it!!

Ingredients:

  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 C warm milk
  • 2 eggs - room temp
  • 1/3 C butter - melted
  • 3 1/3 C Whole Wheat GG Flour
  • 1/4 C sugar
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions:
• in a bowl mix the yeast, 1 tbsp sugar, and warm milk. Let it sit for 3-5 mins, until a foamy surface.
• add eggs and melted butter, mix
• add flour, 1/4C of sugar and salt. Mix until dough is formed. Let dough rest for 20 mins.
• transfer to a lightly floured table and knead for 8-10 mins.
• place in an oiled bowl, cover with cling wrap, and let it rise for 1 hs (somewhere warm)
• roll it out into a rectangle (.5-1 inches thick). Cut even squares of 2x2”
• place in a baking tray, cover with a wet towel or cling wrap and let it proof for 30 mins.
• bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. After getting them out, brush with butter on top (optional).

Done!!!

I hope they turn out phenomenal for you. We love making these for family and friends, there’s never enough of them!

Love,

Veronica
