Whole Wheat Sourdough ‘Bucket’
Are you intimidated by sourdough?? I felt that way too, for a while. Sourdough is one of those things you just have to try and get a feeling for it. But THIS ‘sourdough bucket’ right here is going to save you so much time and energy! It is so easy, it’s life changing. So let’s get started.
Concept: you’ll have a bucket (like an Instapot crock) with an already prepared sourdough dough in the fridge of which you’ll be able to grab and use anytime you need to bake something! There’s no need to use it all at once.
Ingredients:
13 C of Whole Wheat Flour
3 TBSP of Salt (high quality if possible)
3 C of Sourdough Starter
8 C of water
How to make the dough:
Mix all ingredients in the bucket and stir well, slowly. You want a sticky dough, but if it’s runny you’ll need a bit more flour. Cover loosely (not too loose so it doesn’t crust fast). Put it in the refrigerator for a day/overnight. Done!
How to keep it going:
Instead of using ALL the dough, leave about 3C of it in the bucket and add Flour, Water, and Salt (13-3-8). The 3 cups left of dough will act as the starter. Cover and put it back in the fridge, it’s very simple. Try to use it within a week.
What can I bake with this sourdough?
Almost everything! Pizzas, basic load of bread, English/rustic muffins, cinnamon rolls, empanadas, burger/hotdog buns, pie crusts, tortillas!! the options are endless.
For Cinnamon Rolls: roll out a piece of dough using plenty of flour (remember, it’s sticky), add the toppings you want (raisins with honey and cinnamon is our fav). Roll up, cut, place them in a baking sheet and cook them for 20-30 mins at 400 degrees. Delish!!!
For Tortillas: simply grab small balls of dough, stretch them to your preferred size and cook on the pre heated pan at medium high for 0:30-1 min each side. Done!
